Hole In The Ozone Layer

Good morning guys, hope you all are doing well and i am here with my next blog in which you will get to know more about the ozone layer. Ozone is mainly found above the earth's surface and it extends upto about 30 miles. This region of the atmosphere is called the stratosphere. The ozone in this region is commonly known as the ozone layer. The layer plays a vital role it absorbs the ultraviolet sunlight. It thus plays a key role in the temperature structure of the earth's atmosphere. But this layer is depleting day by day and if it continues then the sun rays enters directly and it will harm the ecosystem.

The ozone hole is a annual thinning of the ozone layer over antarctic. However, the ozone hole is most usually measured not in terms of ozone concentrations at these levels but by reduction in the total column ozone. The main cause of the ozone hole is by the CFC(chlorofluorocarbon) compound which breaks down due to ultraviolet light and become free radicals containing chlorine high in the earth's atmosphere. The ozone layer can also be depleted by free radicals catalysts including nitric oxide, nitrous oxide, hydroxyl, atomic chlorine and atomic bromine.
Actions that have been taken to protect ozone layer is that the government have decided to eventually discontinue the production of CFCs,methyl chloroform and industry has developed more "ozone friendly" substitutes.
